TOP SPOT DIRECTOR COLTHORP BREAKS WITH "TRADITION" Collaborates on Star Trek Documentary, "Trek Nation"

New York, NY September 14, 2004 -- International award winning director Scott Colthorp, of Atmosphere Pictures (NY), has been selected as one of 20 finalists in New York's first annual "Creativity No Spot Short Film Festival" with his short film, "Tradition."

The festival, which takes place Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in downtown Manhattan at the Regal Cinemas, will be a showcase for directorial talent and a celebration of creativity in film-making. Judges from the commercial and entertainment industries include Lawrence Bender from A Band Apart, Rob Carlson of William Morris and Jules Daly, RSA, USA (for a full list of Judges http://www.adcritic.com/nospot/judges.html) ."

According to organizers, "The number and quality of entries for the first year of No Spot were overwhelming".

"Colthorp created the lush, experimental film "Tradition" from an American experience that transcends the ordinary and enters the world of the sacred: Football Fandom -- In this case, at the University of Tennessee. "Tradition" follows the action -- from sunrise to sun down -- as more than 100,000 ardent fans descend on a small Appalachian town and turn a college football game into a near religious pilgrimage."

Today Colthorp is transitioning his commercial acumen to the world of long-form production with his feature-length documentary directorial debut titled, "Trek Nation." In collaboration with Roddenberry Productions, Colthorp will use a first person narrative to explore the far-reaching, positive impact Star Trek has had on America and the world at large. Colthorp has defined a unique and very dramatic arc, by setting it against the backdrop of an only son searching to understand a father the world considers an icon. Through producing partner and protagonist, Eugene Roddenberry, Jr., Colthorp artfully balances the emotional expose against the factual recounts of Gene Roddenberry.

Shot in high-definition and 35mm film, Colthorp co-created "Trek Nation" to be the definitive tribute to Star Trek and science fiction fans worldwide. From inside the Roddenberry home to the furthest corners of the earth, Star Trek is ubiquitous - and from all indications, so Colthorp's Trek Nation will be."
